Students “Gear Up” for the Future
Transition-aged students at The Forum School are learning job readiness skills hands-on, through a unique partnership with Ramsey Auto Group, a family-owned auto dealership in Ramsey.
Our transition services are very hands-on – students learn real job skills in real businesses – so when they graduate, they have work experience and are prepared with the skills they will need.

“One of our owners has a daughter with autism, so our business knows and values people with disabilities,” said Jim Conroy, Director of Finance and Customer Relations at Ramsey Auto Group.
The door for work opportunities for students at Forum opened up after Jim Conroy’s son, Justin, was placed at Forum several years ago.
“Things were not working for him the public school,” Jim recalled. “Once he started at Forum, we noticed a huge difference right away. He is a completely different kid!”
Because Ramsey Auto has a long history of supporting the local community, and has hosted other students with disabilities, Jim saw the opportunity for Forum School right away. “Here, there are opportunities for everyone,” said Conroy. “I just want to help people.”
“Our business is like a city for these kids – there are so many jobs that need to be done: staple removal, scanning, wiping down the vehicles, shredding – there is so much! Kids can do much of this work independently because they like the repetitive nature of the work.”
According to Brian Detlefsen, principal at The Forum School, the partnership is getting students ready for the future.
“Our school has deep roots in the community, and we appreciate the local business leaders who help our kids get a good start,” he said. “Our transition services are very hands-on – students learn real job skills in real businesses – so when they graduate, they have work experience and are prepared with the skills they will need.”
