We sat down with Joseph Neubert, Supervisor of Instruction at The Forum School
Q: Why did you seek a job at a private school for students with autism?
A: As a graduate student, I had an opportunity to participate in a field experience in a wonderful, caring, and dedicated program serving students with disabilities. The name of the school was The Forum School. Years later, after a fulfilling and rewarding career in public education, I decided that it was time to follow my passion and find a position in a program that provides children and young adults with special needs the support, resources, and caring environment that are so important in helping them to find personal success. As good fortune would have it, I had the opportunity to join the staff at that outstanding school that I had visited so many years before.
Q: What excites you about the work at The Forum School?
A: Its vision of Believe – Celebrate – Succeed. The Forum School is about more than academics. It is about believing in the dignity and worth of every child; celebrating milestones and achievements; and helping each student become his or her “best self.”
Q: What are your plans and goals at The Forum School?
A: I plan to strengthen our core programs while exploring opportunities for growth in our academic, and health and wellness programs. I am excited about the development of blended learning opportunities in the ELA and math curriculums. Blended learning integrates technology and digital media with traditional instructor-led classroom activities, which gives teachers and students more flexibility to customize individualized learning experiences.
Q: Where do you see the field of special education going?
A: One focus in special education today is to ensure that students obtain the knowledge, life skills, tools, and increased independence to transition from school to employment or post-secondary education. At The Forum School, students gain valuable transitional services through Structured Learning Experiences and our two transition programs, E.L.I.T.E. and L.I.F.T.
