Making sure there is more to life.
Academic learning is the cornerstone of the school curriculum. Just as their peers in public school do, our students learn reading, mathematics, critical thinking, science, history, and literature.
But there is more to life than books, pencils, and laptops. There is art and music; there are bike rides and swimming; there are proms and parties. Play and recreation are the part of life that connects us with others.
Too often, people with autism and related challenges find themselves isolated, even within their own communities. By teaching the social and recreational skills they need to “connect,” teachers at The Forum School help ensure that students have a shared “play language” with siblings and others.
Instruction at The Forum School focuses on building skills and confidence to learn and play alongside neurotypical peers. Students spend time learning to ride a bike, swim in a pool, and play board games. They develop skills and talents outside traditional academics in order to help build a foundation for relationships and friendships that can last a lifetime.
