Vicki Ofmani, M.Ed, LDT-C, The Forum School’s Supervisor of Instruction and Structured Learning Experience Coordinator, has been busy this spring. In February, she was invited to Maryland as a trainer for the Learning Disabilities Association of America’s 54th Annual International Conference. There, she presented three successive “table talks” aimed at teaching other educators how to prepare students to be successful in attaining employment.
Reaching out to help other educators understand and use best practices is part of our mission here at The Forum School. We want to reach beyond our own doors to improve the lives of ALL students.
– Brian Detlefsen, Principal
Emphasizing the need to train students in ‘soft skills,’ Vicki showed educators how to teach their students with autism to perform better at job interviews, as well as how to teach students the 4 P’s: professionalism, preparation, positive personality and pliability.
“Employers want to hire people who can accept change and adapt quickly. Flexibility and adaptability are necessary,” she said. “It is vital that teachers focus on these skills in order to prepare students with autism for competitive jobs.”
Vicki also made an encore presentation at the Learning Disabilities Association of New Jersey’s Transition Conference in May.
